About Us
Jack Ham
CEO & Co-Founder with more than 2 decades of experience. First person to infuse Mesenchymal
Stem Cells in Malaysia.
I was born and raised in a small town, where my father was a rubber planter. I joined a
private cord blood bank in 2002 and was instrumental in raising public knowledge of stem
cells. I created simple ways to explain the importance of stem cells, especially how it
helps those with blood diseases. I was essentially a storyteller for many years.
I’m not a scientist, but I felt very strongly that the general public should have more
access to the latest developments in medical science. The challenge was to decipher all the
scientific terms in the published journals and translate them into a more palatable language
for people to digest, regardless of their educational background.
And that was what my partner and I did in 2010 when we founded Nexus Scientific. We were the
first to advocate Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Asia for consumer use.
The word nexus means connection or bridge. We took it upon ourselves to be the bridge of
understanding between the work of scientists and the people. During that time, the science
of regenerative medicine with Mesenchymal Stem Cells was very new, even for doctors. The
task of a messenger was tough, with many rejections. It is always tougher to be the
first.
Nexus Scientific eventually specialised in supplying doctors and other companies behind the
scenes. We were the only supplier of Mesenchymal Stem Cells at that time and achieved some
success.
Our focus has always been on producing the best cells to the best of our abilities. Part of
the reason we are successful is that we resisted the urge for aggressive expansion and
accepted the many offers to sell the company.
Alas, the pandemic happened, and everything changed. Business was affected because our
clients, whom we supplied, were closing down one after another. We realised the need to
evolve again when Mesenchymal Stem Cells were discovered to be the only thing effective
against the Coronavirus.
That was when we decided to create HumanLab and serve the people directly. Our direction was
simple and clear. While still acting as a bridge between science and people, we offer the
best stem cells possible at a realistic price so more people can benefit.
We reviewed our technique and improved cost efficiency while retaining quality. We operate
like a boutique laboratory, which gives us more control over our procedures. The finished
product is our MasterCells Infusion.
Today, we find joy in approaching customers directly. Being able to help them achieve their
health goals makes our work meaningful. Their trust in us is what makes us do better and
better.
Rosie Wong
Bachelor of Science (Honours). She is the Lab Director & Co-Founder with more than 2
decades of experience Stem Cell Expansion.
Growing up as the eldest of six, life was no crystal stair, but it was filled with valuable
memories. My dad, a skilled Klang mechanic, provided for us, but money was tight. Despite
winning a scholarship, I couldn’t pursue my dream of studying medicine due to financial
constraints. So, I decided to carry on with biotechnology instead.
My job at a private cord blood bank in 2004 was a real eye-opener, teaching me about the
practical applications of stem cells for kids with leukemia. But it was also
heart-wrenching. Nonetheless, during my time there, I was lucky enough to interact with
top-notch doctors and professors, learning invaluable things that aren’t taught in
books.
One thing I discovered was that the future of healthcare lies in regenerative medicine.
Imagine being able to fix organs at a cellular level with Mesenchymal Stem Cells,
eliminating the need for transplants altogether.
This cutting-edge technology could save countless lives from complications of heart disease
or renal failure, and I was determined to make it a reality. But, my motivation was
personal. My dad suffered from kidney disease, and I wanted to use this new technology to
save him. Sadly, it was too soon for the science, and he passed away.
That’s when Nexus Scientific was born, with a mission to bring this technology to the
masses. We kept pushing forward until we finally succeeded as an OEM producer and now, with
HumanLab, we’re taking things to the next level.
Our MasterCells infusion is a game-changer, and we’re hoping to change more lives for the
better. After all, this is what it’s all about.
A little bit about our Lab team
We work around the clock. Our average day begins at 10 a.m., although we frequently come in
earlier if necessary. Our operating hours are determined by the condition of the
MasterCells. We sometimes leave early to recuperate and return later in the evening.
On the day of delivery, we have to start early. We will go through all the flasks and
harvest them one by one. So sometimes we start at 4 am, sometimes at 6 am. There were
several occasions when we had to stay overnight at the laboratory. It doesn’t bother us at
all.
We love what we do. Our priority is the MasterCells because we know our clients need them.
We know our clients will benefit from them.
The MasterCells are collectively transferred into a saline bottle and are ready for
infusion. All in all, we go through 154 steps, 122 flasks, 44 days, and 1056 man hours for a
single order. We focus on each client’s order with a sense of urgency, but we take our
time.
All of this adds up to a possible waiting list that could stretch up to six months. Our
clients understand the importance of giving us time, and we understand the importance of
giving each of them our time in return. I think this determination and high expectations of
ourselves have unwittingly transformed us from scientists to artisans.
One thing is certain: we are proud to say that we know what we are doing and are good at
what we do.
